About the Founder

Born in 1974 in The Bronx  New York, Jay Ess is considered the ‘Renasance Man’ of
his time. He brings with him over 15 years of professional experience in the Fashion
Design, Commercial Art and Rap fields. He’s the youngest of  2 sons & raised by a single
mother whom he credits his work ethic to. “My moms was ALWAYS working to provide
for us, so I learned how to hustle from her. Moms are the hardest hustlers out!” says the
38 year old self pro-claimed Phreshman. Being the Black Sheep of his neighborhood, he
took the creative route and flourished early in life. Inheriting the skill from his father, Jay
Ess was a natural born artist, but once he realized he could profit from drawing, (which
was only a hobby at the time), it became a serious passion for him.

After attending  ‘The High School of Art & Design’ ,where he majored in Comm-
ercial Art,  he landed an internship at Marvel Comics. This experience helped create
the style of art we see now in his hand drawn marker colored Political pieces. Shortly
after a series of art related internships he was fortunate  enough to be offered a job at
Sean John Boys as a graphic designer.  His first job in the Fashion Industry where he
would meetup with Percy Miller(Master P) and launch his Fashion Design career. He
would eventually work with world famous brands such as: Enyce, Ecko Red, Jordache,
Parish Nation, Gino Green Global, Akademiks Girls, Akademiks Boys, Pelle Pelle, Mudd
Jeans, Carters, Osh Kosh B’Gosh, P. Miller Collection and Izod.

Being born in the same era as the begining of the hip hop movement, rap music
was always available to inspire the young artist, then known simply as Joey. So behind
the scenes of the Fashion grind, he would sharpen his Rap and  Graphic skills, gaining
expertise in Pen & Ink, Markerwork, Acrylic Painting &  Adobe Photoshop and Adobe
Illustrator which would ultimately prepare him for his current situation. His long awaited
first website which showcases his first love, Commercial Art. Scribing his next LP while
taking canvas and logo orders in between designing graphics for his Clothing Line
named after his daughter (Phresh for Liphe), Jay Ess thrives in this environment.  He
credits his inspirations to his surroundings.

You can currently catch him juggling fatherhood, hosting his Commercial Art website
(LipheWorks) and working on a new album which he promises to be re-PHRESH-ing for
real hip hop fans!  So whether you catch him dropping off his daughter at school, drop-
ping sarcastic verses on a beat or online taking graphic orders, he’s sure to be grinding!
